My academically relevant ‘summer programmes’ have run with great joy & success for the past 18 years, offering students the incredible opportunity to improve & perfect their communicative skills in France. All arrangements were firmly in place for the June/July 2020 ‘séjour linguistique’ and students from 6 different schools were excitedly counting down the days to departure on Tuesday 23 June.
Although Covid-19 started to rear its head in late February/early March, we still clung on to the hope that travel would be possible by late June. Sadly however, the dreaded virus evolved with such alacrity and rage and slowly but surely, the reality set in that the tour would not be able to take place.
With dreams dashed, the students were understandably devastated and I too was heartbroken, as so much time, effort & energy had been poured into the organization of what should have been an incomparable adventure in la belle France.
Whilst Personal Touch Schooltours has effectively been brought to its knees as a direct result of Covid-19, my fervent hope is that I will be in a positio n to offer a similar tour in 2021. This, however, remains to be seen, as a ‘new normal’ evolves, but I am determined to step out in faith and rise up on the ‘wings of eagles’.
